The Magic of Earth Education

24th to 26th March 2017

Ringsfield Ecocentre, Ringsfield Hall, Suffolk, NR34 8JR

A collaborative weekend in Suffolk. Come to share our ways of engaging children and young people in learning about, and connecting to, the natural world. Continuing on from our stimulating and enjoyable weekend in April 2016, this weekend will be suitable for teachers, social workers, environmental educators, conservationists, outdoor activity leaders, bush crafters, permaculture enthusiasts and many more (attendance at the las meeting is not prerequisite for anyone wishing to come along).

The keynote speaker will be Mark Jefferys who is one of only three accredited Earth Education trainers in the UK. He has over 30-years experience in environmental and earth education, teaching adults and children of all ages in the UK, Finland, Australia and America. He is passionate about bringing the natural world to life and reconnecting people with nature in creative ways. A keen songwriter and guitarist, Mark often uses his music in environmental programmes.

The weekend will continue to look at how earth education might enrich other environmental disciplines and also what it might learn from them. An emphasis will be on Earth Education’s attitudes towards interactions between adults and learners, nurturing children’s feelings for the earth by harnessing their amazing imaginations and curiosity through magical learning experiences. Using earth education philosophy and materials, ranging through work with toddlers to teenagers and adults, the weekend will be hosted once more by Ringsfield EcoActivity Centre where the hospitality is warm and welcoming in a delightful Victorian house with delicious food, and amongst 14-acres of varied grounds.

Ringsfield Hall's education team will also be on hand to share their experience of Earthkeepers and Teddy Bears Picnic; Mark and others will look at Sunship Earth and Sunship III, and how the Muir Trek might be used with parents and other adults to foster immersion. There will be sessions to enjoy outdoors, campfires, discussions, craft work, celebrations, a workshop on props for earthwalks, fostering relationships with children and being available to them.

Cost: £140 for full board accommodation + £30 for those attending the earth education workshop on Saturday (much less than the usual costs if booked as part of this weekend) + £5 for one year membership of Earth Education UK.
